Intellectual property is an increasingly growing aspect of law, with just a few persons realizing that it has the potential to be the ‘new oil’ in Nigeria. The Intellectual Property and Technology Law Club, University of Ibadan, being among these few, saw the need for both it’s members and non-members to be exposed to an important area of IP, which is Trademark Application. This birth the concept of the Masterclass 1.0, which bordered on the topic ‘Understanding Trademark Application in Nigeria.’ This held on 2ND November,2018 at the Seminar Room 1, Faculty of Law, University of Ibadan.
The aim of the masterclass is to introduce participants to procedural and vital aspects of intellectual property. The Masterclass 1.0 was however the first edition. The facilitator was Mrs Yetunde Okojie, Senior Associate, S.P.A Ajibade and CO. She is an alumnus of the Faculty of Law, University of Ibadan whose love and passion for IP began much after she graduated from this faculty.
It was a very enlightening session as we learnt a lot from her wealth of knowledge on TRADEMARK application with great exposition on the following :
● NICE CLASSIFICATION OF TRADEMARK
● Procedure for Trademark Registration in Nigeria
● Methods of filing Trademark application.
● Protection of pending Trademark
In all, the first edition of the IPTLC masterclass was a huge success and achievement for the club as its purpose was duly fulfilled with great feedbacks from participants.
It was productive as our members shared what they learnt.
